Bike paths coming to the county

Georgia transportation Commissioner Wayne Shackleford recently announced approval of federal funding for construction of the Coweta County bicycle route network.

This project involves planning and implementing a county bicycle route network in Coweta County. The designated network of bicycle trails will connect public facilities and historic acres of interest through routes in scenic areas of the county.

“This completed project will provide a scenic and user-friendly, multi-use trail in Coweta County,” said Shackleford. “Transportation investments such as this one not only benefit the citizens of this county, but also benefit visitors.”

Up to 80 percent of the funds being used for this project have been provided by the Federal Highway Administration, with the local government funding the remainder of the project cost. Half of the funding will be distributed Oct. 1, with the rest becoming available in October 2000.

The local government project sponsor is responsible for implementing the project and obtaining federal reimbursement from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
