Coweta jumps on the information superhighway

Coweta County has jumped on board the information superhighway.

Public information officer Tom Corker demonstrated the capabilities of the county's new Web page to the Coweta County Commission Tuesday morning.

The site, at www.coweta.ga.us., features a wealth of information for people who want to stay informed on happenings in the county, Corker said.

While the site is still under construction, interested viewers can still find job postings and visit several of the county's departments and actually download forms for inspections or other official actions.

“This will save residents at least one trip to this building,” Corker said.

Commission chairman Lawrence Nelms wondered if this would be a good resource to help the county comply with the newly changed Open Records Act.

The law now requires the county to furnish documents to residents within three days, and county administrator Theron Gay said the county is investigating the capabilities of its Web site.

Other interesting parts of the county's site include a weather update and links to other local sites. One of the departments included on the page is the county's convention and visitor's bureau.

Visitors to the site can obtain a wealth of information about the county's attraction and history and decide whether to make the county a stop on their trip to Georgia.

The Web page also features news updates from the commission meetings and agendas for future meetings.

“As soon as I get the agenda, I'm posting it on the Web,” Corker said.

The commissioners praised Corker's work on the site, and the public information officer pledged to keep the county up to date as more items are added to the site.
