Movies Opening Friday Dick Two simple girls get caught in the middle of the Watergate scandal. This film stars some great comic actors, including two of the Kids in the Hall. Rated PG-13. Iron Giant A gigantic space robot befriends a little boy named Hogarth. This film is from Warner Brothers and has the look of some of the old school cartoon movies. Rated G. Sixth Sense A little boy can see ghosts and it's up to a child psychiatrist played by Bruce Willis to stop it. Previews look really cool. Rated PG-13. Mystery Men Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofalo team up with an all-star cast to save Captain Amazing from a madman's evil plans. This looks really good. It will be the first movie I see this weekend. Rated PG-13. Now Playing American Pie Not worth all the hype but not as raunchy as some people have made it out to be. Some parts are gross but there is a sweetness and innocence to the tale. It is entertaining. Rated R. Arlington Road Jeff Bridges plays an expert on terrorism and Tim Robbins plays his terroristic neighbor. My mom loved it. She said she was on the edge of her seat through the whole film. Rated R. Big Daddy A cute movie with a cute kid and the cute comedy of Adam Sandler. I liked it but I liked the moronic humor of Billy Madison better. Rated PG-13. The Blair Witch Project A very well-done and scary movie, without all that gore, splatter and nudity that has plagued the horror genre for years. No doubt you've heard about it, now go and see it for yourself. Rated R. Deep Blue Sea Think Jurassic Shark. A cure for Alzheimer's lies with sharks, but these sharks have had their intelligence enhanced. A smart shark is a dangerous one. Rated PG-13. Drop Dead Gorgeous A comedy about a beauty pageant in middle America. Kirstie Alley and Denise Richards star. Rated PG-13. Eyes Wide Shut I haven't seen this yet because I'm afraid of being let down. I've heard extremely mixed reviews. If you like Kubrick's work, you'll like this movie. If you liked Days of Thunder and Cocktail, you won't. Rated R. The General's Daughter John Travolta plays an investigator looking into the murder of ...the general's daughter. Lots of suspense and drama, I just hope he sings Greased Lightning. Rated R. The Haunting This movie stunk. You have seen all of the scary parts in the preview and by the end you will be very annoyed and not entertained in the least. Rated PG-13. Inspector Gadget One of America's favorite cartoon detectives gets a live action movie. Matthew Broderick stars as the bumblingly brilliant Gadget. Rated PG. Lake Placid Ok, so it's about a giant crocodile. The script is snappy, the acting is good and it's just a lot of fun. Rated R. Notting Hill Julia Roberts plays a world famous actress and Hugh Grant plays the charming owner of a charming bookstore. It won't last too much longer. Rated PG-13. Runaway Bride Julia Roberts and Richard Gere team up again for a romantic date movie. Quite interesting that the person afraid to commit is a woman. Rated PG. ä Star Wars: The Phantom Menace So, it's not the second coming. This is a great movie with effects that mess with your mind long after. It is a perfect beginning to the story and the performances are great. Rated PG. Tarzan Disney didn't make a lot of noise about this movie, but it makes as big a splash as the best of them. It has a good story, nice songs, and incredible visuals. Rated G. Wild, Wild West A critical flop, this underachieving film was a hit with the masses, at least for one week. Rated PG-13. The Wood A comedy/drama about four young men growing up in The Wood. I haven't heard much either way. Rated R. Also Playing Cookie's Fortune Directed by Robert Altman, this film revolves around a bunch of eccentric Southerners. Altman is a genius and Glenn Close stars, it can't be that bad. Rated PG-13. Doug's First Movie The hit cartoon takes to the big screen and entertains and educates his way through 90 minutes. The voices have changed recently, but it still has a great sense of humor. Rated G. Entrapment Sean Connery is a burglar and Catherine Zeta Jones is a cop. What do you think will happen? Rated PG-13. Election A great movie about politics that doesn't take sides. Set in high school and starring Reese Witherspoon, this film is worth your time. Rated R. Forces of Nature A man finds true love away from his fiance'. Some of the film was shot in Savannah. Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock star. Rated PG-13. Instinct Anthony Hopkins plays a crazed sociologist, who murdered two men in Africa. Cuba Gooding Jr. plays the ambitious young doctor who wants to crack the crazy. Rated R. Life Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are wrongly imprisoned for life. It's surprising how funny prison can be. Rated R. The Matrix Wow. A visually appealing action/ sci-fi movie. If you haven't seen it, go. Now. You'll be Kung-Fu'ing your way out to your car. Rated R. The Mummy A fun action adventure starring Brendan Fraser. The effects are nice and there are a few jumpy type suspenseful moments. Rated PG-13. October Sky This film has received rave reviews from everybody I know. It is said to be very inspirational. Rated PG. The Out of Towners A remake of the Neil Simon classic that flopped like nobody's business. Goldie Hawn, Steve Martin and John Cleese don't typically fail, but this movie did. Rated PG-13. Shakespeare in Love Shakespeare is having trouble finishing his new play, Romeo and Ethel the Pirate's Daughter. The winner of the 1998 Academy Award for Best Picture. It really is good. Check it out. Rated R. 10 Things I Hate About You A cute movie loosely based on Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. You'll want to fall in love all over again. Rated PG-13.
