Georgia Academy of Dance co-hosts dance conservatory

The Georgia Academy of Dance along with LaGrange Ballet hosted a three week intensive dance workshop on the campus of LaGrange College.

The course included guest faculty from New York, Mississippi and Atlanta. Sherri Davis, director of Georgia Academy of Dance, and Nancy Theussen-Gell, director of LaGrange Ballet, are the cofounders of this program, which was open to serious dance students.

More than 40 dance students, from Georgia, Tennessee and New York, participated in the workshop, with more than 30 students boarding on campus at the college. The students danced six hours a day, taking classes in classical ballet, partnering, pointe, jazz, modern, character, body awareness, and choreography concepts. They also went swimming on a daily basis, in facilities offered by the college.

To top off their camp experience, the students presented a performance free to the public at the Price Theatre. The Georgia Academy of Dance is having an open house Aug. 5-7 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For information on the Georgia Summer Dance Conservatory or the Georgia Academy of Dance, phone Sherri Davis at 770-631-3128.
