Twain's greatest at Sams

By MICHAEL BOYLAN
Weekend Editor

The characters of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer are legends in American Literature. Their adventures spanned two novels by Mark Twain and now are combined in the Fayette Community Theatre production of the musical “Huckleberry Finn.”

The musical was originally performed off-Broadway and was a smashing success. The New York Daily News gave it a stellar review by saying, “Huck is a rollicking humdinger of a musical. Huck must take its place way, way on top with the finest.”

The cast of 25 will take audiences on a journey down the Mississippi River. Huck and Tom encounter shady medicine men, pretty young ladies, colorful townsfolk and classic con-men. Some of the classic adventures from the novel “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” are not part of the musical but the performance is suitable for the entire family.

Huck's General Store will be open prior to the performance and during intermission. This old time establishment will be full of lots of goodies that come directly from the show. Some of the products available will be old-fashioned peppermint sticks, balloons, Tom and Huck's miniature rafts, and Huck's sling shots.

The actors playing the mischievous Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer are Joey Summers and Craig De Lorenzo, respectively. Both actors are veteran actors with Fayette Community Theatre.

Tickets are currently on sale for the show at both the Peachtree City and Fayetteville libraries as well as Pam's hallmark in Peachtree City. Pre-sale tickets are $6 and also can be purchased by calling the ticket line at 770-631-1542. Tickets sold at the door will be $8 for adults and $6 for senior citizens and students.
