Briefs Tom Mindar, a Fayetteville police officer, took home a gold medal at the Georgia Games recently. Mindar fought in the Novice Super Heavyweight division. He has been training with Mike Gaddy of Fayetteville for quite awhile. Tom Nguyen, another Gaddy-trained boxer, took home the silver medal in the Open Heavyweight division. Nguyen will travel to Orlando in September to participate in the Police Athletic League tournament. The winners get to participate in the Olympic trials and Nguyen is sure to face some of the top fighters in the nation. Wade Knowles of Tyrone finished where he started in the Georgia Tool and Equipment Rental 100 at Rome Speedway recently. Knowles started in 17th position and finished the race in 17. Ricky Williams of Fayetteville started in the 18th position and finished 22. Williams did come in third place this past weekend in the Super Late Model main event at Rome Speedway. The third leg of the championship begins this Saturday night at 8 at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga. Call 770-926-5315. The Fayette County 4-H Shotgun Team participated in a 16-yard line trap tournament at Tom Lowe Shooting Complex recently. In the senior division, ninth to 12th grade, Steven Adams hit 97 of 100 targets to take first place. Olen Kuhr finished in second place with a score of 90 of 100 targets. In the junior division, seventh and eighth grade, Justin Galimore placed second, while Shelli Adams finished fourth. The 4-H Shotgun Team is working toward shooting clay target games year round.
