Flight school off and running

By JANET McGREGOR

The Peachtree Flight School began offering lessons at Falcon Field on June 1, filling the void when Falcon Flight School closed their doors. The school also continues to operate out of Griffin as the Griffin Flight School.

Offering instruction for a full range of flight training from beginner to commercial and instrument flying, the school will soon be offering multi-engine instruction.

According to office manager Matt Barchi, “We can do all Federal testing on-site. A Federal Examiner comes to our location to do testing, which is a real plus for our students.”

The school has eight airplanes, along with five full-time and two part-time instructors.

The School is in the process of becoming “Part 141.” Once they have attained this status with the FAA, they will be able to instruct those from foreign countries, and veterans will be eligible to apply some VA benefits toward their training.

According to Barchi, approximately one-third of their students are seniors. One gentleman working on his licence is 83 years old.

Those interested in getting a pilot's licence should plan on spending approximately $3,500 or more. The number of hours to earn a licence depends on the individual's skill level, interest and the amount of time he or she can devote.
