Vo-tech students can earn double credit

By PAT NEWMAN

Dual credit classes will offered through the Fayette County's high school vocational education department and Griffin Tech starting this school year.

According to Richard Smith of Griffin Tech, it's a way for students to earn double credit that can be applied to hours at tech schools and colleges such as Clayton College and State University, Georgia Tech, Griffin Tech and Columbus State.

Smith told the Fayette County Board of Education that certain programs in the high schools, such as manufacturing specialist and construction worker classes, matched the course requirements offered at Griffin Tech. Therefore, 15 credit hours will be awarded to students completing such courses.

“They will earn high school credit and Griffin Tech credit,” he said. The only cost to the student is a $15 registration fee to Griffin Tech. The state Deparment of Education provides the books under the HOPE grant, Smith added.

Instruction will be delivered by the high school teachers.
