The Wolf Creek Young Shooter Association competed in the Georgia Games in Augusta recently. The practice certainly paid off as the team showed their mettle and took home lots of medals in the process.

Most of the team shot in the Intermediate Junior Class J2. The only exceptions were Dane Beatenbough and Neil Robinson who competed in the Sub-junior class J3.

In the Ladies Air Pistol, the Wolf Creek shooters placed first, second and third. Kristi Smith placed third and took home the bronze, scoring 339. Smith also took home another bronze in the Women's Sporter Rifle. Jodie Briggs shot a 350 in the Air Pistol competition, good enough for a silver medal and a second place finish.

The first place finisher in Ladies Air Pistol was Diana Hamlin Beauford. Beauford shot a 362. She also brought home the gold by shooting a 498 in Women's Sport Pistol.

The only member of the team to win more events than Beauford was Brandon Wayda. Wayda won three gold medals during the Georgia Games. He won the Men's Air Pistol category, shooting a 551. Next, Wayda won the Men's Junior Sport Pistol by shooting a 528. His last win at the games came in the Men's Rapid Fire Pistol event. He shot a 553 and proved himself to be a rising star in shooting.

Charles Massengill placed second in the Men's Air Pistol category by shooting a 485. That is 66 points less than Wayda's first place finish in the same category. In the Sub-junior class of Men's Air Pistol, Wolf Creek's Young Shooter Association packed another one-two punch. Dane Beatenbough won the gold by shooting a 431, while Neil Robinson finished in second place, shooting a 420.

Members of the Young Shooter Association cannot rest on their laurels, though. This weekend, Wolf Creek hosts the 34th annual International BB Gun, Junior Air Rifle, Junior Running Target, and Junior Air Pistol Championship. The match is sponsored by Daisy and U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce and will have the top junior shooters from around the world competing with their teams as well as individually.

The opening ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday night and matches will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. The final matches of the weekend will end at 6 p.m. Sunday and will be followed by a closing ceremony at 7 p.m. The Wolf Creek range is in Atlanata and was the host of the Olympic events in 1996.
