Registration for Peachtree City Classic has begun

The Peachtree City Classic, one of the more popular races in the state, has started signing people up again.

The race, sponsored by the Peachtree City Running Club, is a 5K for men and women. This year the club also will conduct a 15K. The 15K race will be the 1999 Road Runners Club of America National Championship. All three races will be run on separate courses

Each year, the Peachtree City Classic grows in both crowd size and entrants size. The 5K race for men and women is open to the first 800 entrants in each category. The 15K is open to the first 1,500 entrants. The Peachtree City Running Club wanted this year's race to offer more for both the community and the runners so they have added a race day expo. The expo will offer health tips, promotional items from the sponsors, food and entertainment.

The 15K course was voted the best course by Georgia Athlete magazine. It is hardly surprising. The course stretches throughout the city, winding by ponds, through woods and over bridges. It is scenic and well layed out for a large number of runners.

Applications are availble at some of the sponsors of the race; Publix, Wachovia and Gold's Gym. They also are available on line at www.ptcrc.com. The race directors are Rich and Sandra Horning at 770-487-5280, while the director of the 15K is Pam Adams at 770-487-7102.

Through proceeds from the race, the Peachtree City Running Club has been able to make donations to both the Peachtree City Police and Fire Departments. Both organizations have offered their services to the race for free since the race's inception.
