About
a third of Fayette County's schools are
undergoing a summer spruce-up with fresh coats of
paint and new carpeting being rolled out in
preparation for the start of school Aug. 16.
According
to school facilities director Mike Satterfield,
work is almost complete at the seven facilities
scheduled for painting which include Fayette
Middle, Whitewater Middle, Building D at the
Lafayette Educational Center, (old Fayette County
High School), Spring Hill Elementary, Kedron
Elementary, Fayette Primary and Fayette
Intermediate.
Total
cost of the project is $136,750.94, which was
budgeted in the fiscal year 2000 10-year capital
program for $199,268.
Four
buildings, including Whitewater Middle, Fayette
Middle and the C and D buildings at the Lafayette
Center also are receiving new carpet. Total
project cost is $127,825.83 and is covered under
the 10-year facilities plan.
Additional
work at county schools includes roofing on the A
and B buildings at the Lafayette Center, grading
the new athletic practice fields at McIntosh
High, grading the site for the Starr's Mill High
stadium, and construction of 18 new classrooms at
Flat Rock Middle. Satterfield said he anticipates
an early October completion date for the Flat
Rock addition.
