Hearings set on
zoning changes The Fayette
County Planning Commission will have a public
hearing Aug. 5 to consider special development
standards for the Ga. Highway 74 corridor and
changes in county rules for building homes on cul
de sacs.
The
Hwy. 74 overlay ordinance would require more
landscaping and less paved surface than ordinary
county standards, and is designed to make the
highway corridor more scenic. The Planning
Commission is considering the new standards at
the request of the town of Tyrone, which earlier
enacted its own special standards designed to
create a visually pleasant atmosphere in the
town's main corridor.
Most
of the corridor is within Tyrone's town limits.
Only about two tenths of a mile remains in
unincorporated Fayette County, and the proposed
county overlay would apply only to that section.
The
commission also is considering changes to its
street frontage regulations, stating that no more
than four home sites can be situated on a cul de
sac, and that any lot with more than 50 percent
of its road frontage abutting the turn around
portion of a cul de sac would be considered a cul
de sac lot.
If
the Planning Commission votes to recommend the
changes, the Fayette County Commission will have
a public hearing Aug. 22 to consider whether to
adopt them.
