Local businesses hit with loss of power

A power outage Thursday morning shut down a number of commercial establishments for about two hours on one corner of Ga. Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City.

The problem began at about 10 a.m., according to one merchant. The traffic light at the intersection was also out of order, and a Peachtree City police officer directed traffic during the outage.

Among the businesses affected were First Union Bank and First Citizens Bank, as well as Chick-Fil-A and McDonald's restaurants. First Citizens handled drive-through traffic only, while the other three establishments were closed.

All stores in the Peachtree Pointe retail building were affected, although the Peachtree Crossing shopping center next door was not.

Other locations at that intersection, such as Christ our Shepherd Lutheran Church and Ruby Tuesday, experienced little or no interruption.

Power was restored around noon.
