Fayetteville
to celebrate with all day July Jam By MICHAEL BOYLAN This Saturday, the shady grounds around Fayetteville's Old Courthouse will be the setting for the fourth annual July Jam on Main Street. The July Jam features arts and crafts, performances, games and attractions for kids, and a variety of food vendors offering some top of the line fare. This year's Jam has an expanded children's activity area, courtesy of Arby's. There will be clowns, a petting zoo, face painting, edible sand art, a castle jump, miniature train rides and a duck pond. The big news for kids this year is a 33-foot high, 50-foot long slide replicating the famous ship, Titanic. Also, Michael Douglas, a former Harlem Globetrotter, will be on hand demonstrating his skills and giving festival goers a chance to take shots and win prizes. Around the courthouse grounds will be vendor booths displaying all sorts or arts and craftwork, including stained glass, aviation art, to hand made soaps and candles. Recently, Main Street Fayetteville conducted its annual Old Courthouse Art Show and much of the work on display is in the same vein. Starting at noon, the 530th Air Force Band will take the stage, followed by a full day's roster of bands, singers and dancers. The Turning Pointe Dance Academy will perform, followed by the Peachtree City Twirlers and local vocalist Lisa Wagner. Wagner won this year's Jimmy Dean Country Music Showdown. To ensure that no one walks away from the jam hungry, a variety of food vendors will populate Lee Street. Their fares will range from the traditional hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza to gyros, eggrolls and frozen fruit drinks. Lee Street also will be the location for the cooling wonder of the Jammin' Power Mister operated by the city of Fayetteville Fire Department. Kids also can dress up in firefighting regalia and get their pictures taken in the company of a firefighter and one of the largest fire trucks. The day culminates in a free concert, courtesy of Fox 97. The Buckinghams, a popular `60s pop group, will perform a concert under the stars at Heritage Park. The show begins at 7 p.m. and admission and parking for both the daytime and nighttime events are free.
