Knight Group honors top producers

Twanda Garvin was the winner of the top prize at The Knight Group's 1998 “Knights of the Roundtable” event, held Saturday night, March 6, at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead in Atlanta.

Garvin, who is with Surpass Realty, won the grand prize as the Realtor selling the most Knight homes during 1998. She has the choice of a London trip for two, a Paris trip for two, or a Caribbean cruise for two. This was the second consecutive year she has been among the prize winners, as last year she won the drawing for a $250 prize from the names of agents selling Knight homes during 1997.

The special evening, consisting of a well-attended reception, dinner, and winner announcement program, is sponsored each year by The Knight Group.

Other prize winners announced that evening included:

• For the second straight year, Roger Searcy of Re/Max Advantage received a trip for two to the King and Prince Hotel on St. Simons Island as the broker from the office selling the most Knight homes during the year.

• Erika Sowell of Re/Max Advantage, last year's grand prize winner, this time received a weekend for two at the King and Prince as the Realtor registering the most prospects during the year.

• Keith Burley of Real Estate Investment Centers Inc. won the drawing for a $250 prize from the names of agents selling Knight homes during the year.

Chris Knight, vice president of The Knight Group, pointed out that 1998 marked the firm's 20th year in business and that the company has built more than 2,500 homes, almost all of them in the south side area where the firm is based.

“Nineteen ninety-eight also marked another award-winning year for The Knight Group,” he reported.“For the second year in a row and the fifth time in the '90s we won the $100,000 and under Best Building Design Professionalism Award. This `Knights of the Roundtable' promotion also won a Silver Professionalism Award for Best Realtor Promotion by a builder. In addition to these two `highest accolades given by the Atlanta housing industry,' The Knight Group was recognized for the second year in a row by Quality Builders Warranty with the `Mark of Excellence' award recognizing excellence in customer service — exhibiting our commitment to the customer long after the sale.”

Thanking the Realtor community for helping make this possible, he said, “In addition to our dedicated sales staff, we enjoy incredible support from you, the Realtor community. Last year, 53 percent of our home sales were in cooperation with you and your co-workers — a number which we consider exceptional.”

He announced that the company looks forward to 1999 as its best sales year ever. “Adding to our current portfolio of neighborhoods, we will open Meadow Glen in Fairburn, Riverbend Overlook in DeKalb, and Poplar Pointe in Griffin, which should be open by April. With this collection of homes, we should surpass our greatest sales year ever by at least 10 percent,” he said.

Prior to announcing the prize winners, Jay Knight, president, introduced his father and uncle, Perry and Scott Knight, who started the company 20 years ago; and his grandmother Mildred Knight.

He also introduced Mary Wineland, broker for Knight Realty; and the company's superintendents, including Jamie Cagle, Pleasant Grove and Summerlake; Danny Dudley, Glynn Addy; Matt McConnell, Biscayne Pointe; and Chris Taylor, Harbour Town at River's Edge Plantation.

Noting that the annual event is conducted to thank the real estate community for its support of The Knight Group, he said the company is “shooting for 70 percent” co-op sales in the years ahead,” adding that “We want to be on your list of places to show your customers.”

Last year was the fourth year that the company has conducted its “Knights of the Roundtable” Realtor promotion.

The Knight Group, formerly known as Knight Development, is a family business with offices in Jonesboro. The company had its beginning in 1973, when brothers Scott and Perry Knight starting framing houses for area builders.

The Knight brothers got into the home building business in the late 1970s. Perry's son Jay and Scott's son Chris now hold top management positions in the company.

At the present time, the company is building approximately 250 homes a year and is currently active in Henry, Clayton, South Fulton, Spalding and DeKalb counties.
