Scholarship recipients recognized

The ten 1999 scholarship recipients from the Homebuilders Association of Midwest Georgia's Scholarship House program were recognized at the group's April meeting recently at WhiteWater Creek Country Club.

Gene barber, chairman of the scholarship committee, introduced the following recipients, each of whom received a $1,500 scholarship:

• Fayette County High School - Kevin Payne Jr. and Callie Belyeu.

• McIntosh High School - Valerie Kruse and Andrew Nicolls.

• Newnan High School - Sally Clifton and Matthew Newman.

• East Coweta High School - Amelia Hallenberg.

The home builders association has been awarding scholarships since 1984, granting 114 since the program was initiated. Funding is provided by the association's Scholarship House program. The Scholarship House is built utilizing volunteer time and materials from members of the Midwest Georgia association.

Also at the meeting, it was announced that only a few tickets remain for the association's current fund-raiser. The group is selling tickets for a black 1999 Harley Davidson Road King, with the winner to be determined in a reverse drawing Friday, May 21, at an association barbecue at the Griffin Kiwanis Fairground. This event, which will also feature musical entertainment by Double Barrel, will begin at 7 p.m. and will serve as the association's meeting for May.

Only 375 tickets, priced at $100 each, are being sold. The tickets are available to the public. Phone the association office at 770-717-7109.

Midwest Georgia members and persons who have purchased tickets can make reservations to attend the barbecue by calling the association office. Cost for the event is $20 per person if you have not purchased a drawing ticket.

Wachovia Bank was the corporate sponsor for the association's April meeting. First Citizens Bank, Home South Mortgage Corp. and Tucker Federal Mortgage, the current members of the 1999 Underwriters Club, assist with the cost of dinner meeting programs and receive recognition at all Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia functions for the year.

The association, which currently has around 387 members, serves builders in Fayette, Coweta, Spalding, Heard and Meriwether counties. For information phone 770-716-7109.
