School safety task force meets Thurs.

By PAT NEWMAN

A discussion on dress codes and safety policies in Fayette County schools is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. in building A of the LaFayette Center (formerly Fayette County High School).

Wayne Robinson, director of secondary operations for the school district, will conduct the meeting, which is open to students, parents and members of the community. “We need your help and input to guide us,” Robinson said.

The initial meeting of the Safety Task Force, which was formed to address parental concerns over security in the county's schools, was June 24. Some of the proposals emanating from the session included tightening the existing school dress code, making enforcement of the dress code uniform in all the county's schools, and eliminating back packs and book bags in middle and high schools.

Task force members also are working on unifying the emergency procedures and crisis plan for all schools, and adding security cameras and metal detectors to school entrances.
