Sex offender to stay in hospital

A Peachtree City man convicted of sex crimes will remain under secure medical care after a Wednesday hearing in Fayette Superior Court.

Leo Martinez is serving a 10-year sentence for enticing a child for indecent purposes, aggravated sodomy and aggravated child molestation. He is being held for treatment at the Florida Institute of Neurological Rehabilitation until he is released by doctors, at which time he is to serve the remainder of his time in a Georgia prison.

According to a spokesman for the district attorney's office, Martinez' doctor testified that he is not ready to be put in prison, but is being treated in a very secure environment at his own expense — approximately $167 per day.

His treatment includes chemical castration, and his sentence stipulates that he stay away from all children.

Judge Paschal English ruled that Martinez could remain in the hospital according to his doctor's recommendation, since he is in another state far away from his victims and being treated at no cost to Fayette County taxpayers.

Another Peachtree City man pled guilty Wednesday to habitual violator status and was sentenced to five years in prison, one to serve.

Christopher Mark Gardiner was pulled over April 20 after a police officer recognized him and knew that his driver's license had been revoked.

Anthony Carnegie Colvin of East Point pled guilty to two counts of forgery after an incident in February at the Office Depot in Fayetteville.

He was sentenced to seven years, with five to serve, for first-degree forgery. He also received a concurrent five-year term for second-degree forgery, and 12 months concurrent for misdemeanor obstruction and theft.
