Culture
free in culture-free area By MICHAEL BOYLAN If you have not been to the recently renovated Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville yet, this Friday night might be a great time to check it out. The Georgia Youth Ballet and dancers from Georgia, Florida, Kentucky and Mississippi are gathering to perform a dance extravaganza. Best of all, the event is free. The Georgia Youth Ballet is led by artistic director Magdalena Maury and world renowned teachers from New York, Russia and Cuba. Friday night, 50 young dancers will take the stage, performing selections from Swan Lake, acts one and three of Coppelia and other repertoire. There will also be some little dancers performing a Busby Berkley number with beach balls and bathing suits. They have been asked to perform the number at Azalea Estates for their residents. All of the dancers have been participating in an intense month-long workshop, dancing over six hours a day. The workshop culminates in their public presentation. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 9. The auditorium is air conditioned. Call 770-716-9858.
