Local racers shoot for Legend status at AMS

Thursday Thunder at Atlanta Motor Speedway has been a blessing for regional racing fans. Drivers from all over the state and Southeast compete each Thursday in a ten-week Legends car racing series.

Whether you just like watching racing action or you want to root for your hometown drivers, both options are available.

Last Thursday evening, Reed Sorenson of Peachtree City finished in third place in the Jet Food Stores semipro division. Sorenson is currently in second place in the point standings.

Steve Dale of Fayetteville started the Computer Concepts Masters race in the 15th position and moved all the way up to a fourth place finish.

Kenny Daniel and Russ Emick, both of Fayetteville, competed in the Conkle Tree Service Pro race last Thursday. Daniel started in the sixth position and finished eighth, while Emick started at 11 and finished 12th.

Jim Thomasson of Newnan started the Citizens Bank Chargers division race in sixth place and raced to a third place finish. Brandon McElroy, also of Newnan, competed last Thursday. McElroy races in the Cintas Young Lions divsion. He began the race in ninth place and finished in sixth. Directly behind McElroy was Jody Knowles of Tyrone. Knowles started the race in fifth place and finished seventh.

The action continues at Atlanta Motor Speedway this Thursday. It will be Y2K (Yes 2 Kids) night sponsored by Intergraph Computer Systems/Computer Concepts. There will be a lawnmower extravaganza Thursday evening featuring some incredible mower racing.
