The Lady Lakers soccer team of Clayton College and State University added sixteen players to their team recently.

Fourteen of them are incoming freshmen and two are junior college transfers. Of the 16, nine are from the metro Atlanta area.

Three of the girls played for Morrow High School. Zulynette Olivo was a three-year starter for the Mustangs and scored seven goals this past season. She was senior captain of the team and named to the 1999 News/Daily All-Area team. Her teammate Julie Washo also scored seven goals this past season, bringing her career numbers at Morrow to 26 goals, second most in the school's history. Kristen Campbell, also from Morrow High School, joins the team.

Heritage High School in Conyers has a few players joining the Lady lakers as well. Bonnie Elliot was a defensive leader for Heritage and was named to the Rockdale Citizen's All-Area First team this past season. Elliot is joined by her teammate, Dana Peterson. Peterson is a goalie who recorded 15 shutouts this season and did not allow a goal to be scored until the regional playoffs.

Elliot and Peterson will join a former opponent on the team this fall, Star Meyer from Salem High School in Covington. Meyer recorded seven goals and seven assists for the Seminoles and took home the MVP award for her team this past season.

The Lady Lakers also picked up Erica Castillo from Southwest DeKalb. She scored 24 goals and recorded 10 assists as a junior, winning best offensive, best forward, and best female athlete awards during her high school career. Rachel van Ness played at South Gwinnett High School and won the Coach's Award as junior team captain.

The Lady Lakers will have a former Fayette countian playing for them this year as well. Kayla Seabolt, a graduate of Sandy Creek High School, led the team in scoring during her freshman year.

She has been attending Truett-McConnell College for the past two years.

Clayton State coaches said the new blood being infused into the Lady lakers is expected to help them improve on their 9-7-1 record from last year, which was the best record in team history for the Lady Lakers. The program started in 1995 and returns its top scorer from last season, Heather Roberson, and their goalkeeper Michelle Smith.øq

All rained out games will be rescheduled before the tournament July 30-31.
