Creek student dislikes proposed ban on backpacks This letter is an exact copy of one I sent to the Fayette County Board of Education. It is in response to [The Citizen] article [June 30] on the ban on backpacks. My name is Rebel Yurack, and I am going to be a junior at Sandy Creek High School. I wish to respond to an article I recently read entitled, Schools eye stricter dress code, book bags may be banned for safety. The dress code is not the issue that disturbs me, but rather the ban on backpacks. To be perfectly frank, I need my backpack. If you have not noticed, there are many students who do their homework at night. For a person to do their homework, they must often take books home. In many cases, they must take home three or four books each night. These books are often two or more inches thick, and weigh quite a lot. To carry these books home every night without a backpack would become quite burdensome. To be honest, I would love not to have the necessity of a backpack. But that is just it it is a necessity. I'm not sure how this could be remedied, but there must be some way around it. Why deprive hard-working students of a small way of making a hectic life a bit easier? Rebel Yurack
