Real
school growth problem is development Here they come again, this time looking for a mere $95 million dollars to keep our schools running for another five years. When will the politicians learn? We the taxpayers do not have a pot of gold we can tap into whenever they have a whim. Their first SPLOST request was defeated; why would a new one succeed? Instead of throwing more of our money at the problem let's instead deal with the real issue, that being that the runaway development that continues in the county will bankrupt us all unless we act now. The developers are busy counting their profits while the average Joe or average Jane is forced to dig a little deeper to help subsidize their profits. I don't think so. We must put into place a sizable impact fee for all new development to help cover the added costs those developments bring. Surely the developers would understand that it is only fair that they help pay the costs since they are the ones enjoying the benefits of the build, build, build philosophy. Let's face it the school system is very important, but that said, we still cannot just keep paying and paying and paying. Now is the time to stop and address the real problem, not just throw millions at what is best a stop-gap measure. Five years from now they will come a calling again how many more millions will they ask for then? Steve Fodor
