Fayette County authorities are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a residence last week.

More than $100,000 in damage is estimated after the blaze at 119 Holt Road, just east of Fayetteville, according to a spokesman for the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

Firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 10:42 p.m. June 22. Upon arrival, they discovered the structure one-third to one-half involved in fire, with heavy flames showing.

Working most of the night, the department used three engines, two medic trucks and one tanker. The city of Fayetteville also responded to the call through mutual aid.

The house was unoccupied and there were no injuries. Fire officials described the house as a “total loss.”

The investigation is still active, but authorities already consider the blaze to be of a suspicious nature.
