Gold's Gym Fayette County, formerly Club Peachtree, recently donated over $7,000 worth of equipment to Starr's Mill High School. The equipment ranged from Nautilus machines to free weights.

School officials were appreciative of the donation, saying the equipment will help the student body as well as the school's budding athletic program.

“Because of the equipment we received, we will be able to meet the needs of more students,” said Physical Education Department head Glenn Griffin. “We are teaching life skills that can be used throughout the students' lives, and we are very proud of our program.”

The gym has been a strong supporter of local schools since opening its doors more than 10 years ago. One of its main promotions is “Results for Every Body,” which offers discounts to teachers and other Fayette County Board of Education employees. Gold's Gym also offers discounted memberships for students.

Gold's Gym Fayette County was recently voted the top fitness center in Fayette and Coweta counties by Atlanta Journal-Constitution readers. J.D. Holmes, owner, said he believes in helping build an interest in fitness in children. “It is important to ensure that our youth have access to healthy, fun alternatives and to instill good fitness habits in them as early as possible,” he said.

Starr's Mill's athletes say they're looking forward to using the new equipment. The football team looks to improve on a 4-6 record in its second year in varsity. The school fielded a state champion girls' soccer team and a state champion track star in Reuben Houston this year.

The added strength and conditioning will be important the school moves to AAAA in the 2000 school year, officials said.
