Woman arrested in Tyrone

A Tyrone woman is in custody after allegedly passing bad checks at a series of area businesses.

According to reports, Jennifer Ragan was arrested June 17 for fraud and possession of crack cocaine. A complaint was filed by Jack's supermarket, and police said she had also written bad checks at other stores in town.

Officers watched the suspect while she was still in the store and checked by telephone, finding out that the account on which the check was written has been closed. When she was brought into the supermarket office, police say that she put something in her pockets but would not say what it was.

When escorted out to the parking lot and placed under arrest, she would not let the officers handcuff her, the report stated. Upon arrival at the police station, the suspect began kicking and screaming and an officer spotted a clear plastic bag containing 12 pieces of white rocklike material, police said.

She was placed in a cell at the police station and refused to answer any questions about her address or other personal information, police added.

The check written to Jack's was for $170.08, and there was another check written the day before at the same place for $102.23.

Chief Roger Spencer said his department will be checking with nearby jurisdictions to see if the suspect has written checks at any other locations.
