A small portion of Tyrone is set to become a small portion of Peachtree City within a couple of weeks. Four separate families with acreage just north of Greenwood Lane made an annexation request concerning a combined 11.6 acres that is now within the Tyrone town limits. Access to the property comes solely from Greenwood Lane, a public street within the city limits of Peachtree City. The Hughes, Sanders, Care and King families, which own the property in question, brought the matter before the City Council in March, expressing their concerns that the location of the street in relation of their land causes potential problems with mail delivery and emergency response. The council agreed at that time to consider the request again after Tyrone de-annexed the property. Peachtree City development director Jim Williams reported at last Thursday's council meeting that Tyrone has begun the de-annexation process, and if both municipalities approve the request, it would become effective July 1. He explained that this property, if annexed, should be zoned ER (estate residential), the city's least dense zoning classification. Staff recommended this action for the Hughes tract (3.7 acres), the Sanders tract (3.9 acres), the Care tract (1.3 acres) and the King tract (2.7 acres). Also recommended were rezonings for portions of the Sanders and Care tracts already in Peachtree City, a total of 8.9 acres, from AR (agricultural-residential) to R-43 residential. The request was approved 4-0 by the City Council of Peachtree City.
