The Tyrone Town Council gave unanimous approval last week to what town manager Barry Amos called an ambitious budget. The $2.4 million budget, 41 percent larger than last year's $1.7 million budget, does not anticipate a tax increase. But it does require the town to take nearly $289,000 out of its reserve funds to balance the budget. Amos explained the largest factor in this year's increased budget is a huge 233 percent increase in the public improvements portion of the budget. Stating the town has a little catching up to do in public improvements, Amos said $75,000 in funds would be used for street improvements, while an additional $40,000 will be used to build a concession stand at Redwine Park. The town also is looking to the future by setting aside $180,000 for land purchases. The money would be used to buy approximately 18 acres for a new administrative complex. The town's current administrative facility will get a bit of a face-lift this year, with $8,000 being spent for new carpet. Councilman Ray Bogenschutz had only one comment on the budget, which he addressed to the media. Take note, there is no tax increase, he said.
