What do Southerners like the best? A telephone poll of 804 people 18 to 69 from Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina revealed the following:

ä Burger King is the favorite fast-food restaurant, followed closely by McDonald's and Wendy's.

ä Coca-Cola is the most consumed nonalcoholic beverage, followed by water, iced tea, Diet Coke and Pepsi.

ä Budweiser is the favorite beer, followed by Bud Light, Miller Lite and Coors Lite.

ä Snickers is the favorite candy bar, followed by Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Hershey Bars, Butterfinger and Milky Way.

ä Florida is the favorite vacation spot, with Orlando, Panama City and specifically, Disney World being the favorite destinations. South Carolina follows with Myrtle Beach as the preferred vacation spot in the state.

ä “ER” is the favorite television show, followed by “Friends,” “Law and Order” and “Touched by an Angel.”

ä Fried chicken is the favorite Southern food, followed by barbecue, grits and fried catfish.

The survey was conducted by Marketing and Research Resources Inc. and commissioned by Turner South, Turner Broadcasting System Inc.'s new regional entertainment network launching a mix of movies, sitcoms, original programming, regional news and sports in October 1999.
