Don Pablo's

Residents who want a quick trip south of the border should not worry about contacting their travel agents for weekend rates to Cancun.

Instead, get in your car and make the short trip to Don Pablo's Mexican Kitchen at 100 Market Place Boulevard in Peachtree City.

The restaurant opened late last month and receives this month's Citizen's Choice Award for dining.

As you walk into the restaurant, you're immediately struck by the open space and the amount of light pouring into the restaurant. The design of the space is meant to give customers the feeling of a Mexican village plaza and you can practically hear the mariachi music as you're escorted to your seat.

The restaurant features recipes that originated from Mexican ranch cooks in the 1940s. During opening week, everything we tried was exceptional.

One of the more notable items on the menu was the fajitas nachos. We sampled the steak fajita nachos, which were truly exceptional.

The steak was cooked to perfection and complimented the usual nachos trappings of sour cream and cheese.

Food lovers who tend to stay away from Mexican restaurants because they do not like spicy food will be quite happy with Don Pablo's.

The restaurant focuses on subtle flavors, instead of coating everything with a red or green chili sauce.

Other items on the menu include a tortilla soup, grilled chicken and a variety of desserts, including ice cream nachos with brandy-butter sauce and honey-roasted pecans.

For good food at a great price, take a small Mexican vacation to Don Pablo's.
