Unemployment rate continues to plummet

Coweta County's unemployment rate continues to drop.

The county's rate for April was 2.6 percent, down from 2.9 percent in March, according to state Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond.

The unemployment news was also good for the rest of the Chattahoochee-Flint area with the region's rate falling from 4.4 percent in March to 3.8 percent in April.

“Chattahoochee-Flint continues to enjoy periods of low unemployment and economic growth that began seven years ago, just as we've seen throughout Georgia,” Thurmond said.

While historical data has not been compiled for demographic groups in the Chattahoochee-Flint area, the jobless rate for all residents in the area has declined sharply from 1992 when the rate was 9 percent.
