Awards to be given to top school athletic departments

The Georgia Athletic Directors Association recently announced that an award, The Gatorade/Balfour Director's Cup, will be presented annually to the most outstanding athletic departments in each of the Georgia High School Association's classifications.

Next year's school year will be the inaugural year of competition for this award.

Schools will earn points by advancing in the playoffs and state championships. For example, a state championship would be worth 100 points, while state runner-up will be worth 80 points. The eight highest scoring sports for boys and the eight highest scoring sports for girls at each school will be counted toward the Director's Cup standing.

The award rewards total athletic achievement over the course of an entire school year. One school per class will win it.

The award will be a trophy and a banner for the school's gym.
