Auto racing is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. It should come as no surprise that Herschel Walker, a name synonymous with speed and power, is getting in on the action.

Walker was at a press conference at Whitewater Country Club last Wednesday to announce the formation of the Herschel Walker Racing Team. His car will race in the United Speed Alliance Racing Hooter's ProCup racing series. The car will be sponsored by Aloe Lu Ya sports drink, now the official drink of the Hooters ProCup series, and it will be driven by Mardy Lindley, an up and coming driver.

You may have heard the name Lindley before. Lindley's father is NASCAR legend Butch Lindley. The elder Lindley was selected NASCAR Sportsmen Champion twice in his illustrious career. Currently, son Mardy leads the Hooters ProCup Miller Beer “Rookie of the Year” competition and is seventh in points standings.

Walker got interested in car racing while he was still playing for the Dallas Cowboys. Troy Aikman had two Legends cars that he raced frequently. Walker eventually purchased two of his own Legends cars and won nine out of the 10 races that he competed in.

Both the driver and the sponsor are excited about their potential and have a keen eye on the future. “We're getting our feet wet right now, and learning a lot about the world of racing,” said Walker. “Hopefully, we'll move up to higher levels of racing in the future.”

The Aloe Lu Ya car and the Herschel Walker Racing Team make their debut in Lakeland, Fla. this weekend. All races will air on Speedvision the Friday following the race.
