With rampant development, traffic woes, 'wolf is at door' in Fayette

Nothing like a little stick in the anthill to get the ants to running. The Gaskins and Sparks reply letters you published are a perfect illustration of that.

To Ms. Sparks, I ask, “Is it mean-spirited and juvenile to want and demand good quality food, in exchange for hard earned money? What the h— does being gracious have to do with that? Don't you care what you put in your body?”

I'm not a food snob. I am scared that there are extremely few places, for example, who will serve you a hamburger rare or medium. The lesson here is that the meat is not to be trusted, but meat must be cooked to death to be “safe.” That bespeaks quality which should be a concern to anyone who eats out. That applies to pizza as well as steak or barbecue.

To Mr. “Yankee Hater” Gaskins, What are you afraid of? Different food? Meeting people from other areas? Or is it possibly the fact that Fayetteville is going to change a lot in the next 10 years, and your commissioners and your “Development Authority” are not doing anything meaningful to discourage the raping of a beautiful county by developers who only care about making a buck. Could it be the fact that your taxes will probably double in the next 10 years because of uncontrolled population growth?

As a kid growing up, I saw it happen on Long Island in the 1950s and it is going to happen here because “you-all” are letting it happen.

By the way, I prefer Dixie Lily grits. You can keep four extra months of summer. (Also, I would be very suspicious of “Developmental Authority,” so enthusiastically endorsed by the “500 plus members of the Fayette County Board of Realtors”.) You-all know about rabbits and the carrot patch.

Peachtree City is already passing beyond redemption. The demographics shown to me four years ago indicated a “build-out of less than 25,000. In today's paper I see a total of 38,000 may have reached already, with talk of annexing more land. The traffic is abominable at rush hour now and will just get worse.

It's a great place to raise kids, and play golf. It's not a great place to be black or Mexican and drive an older car; that seems to be one of the profiles for being stopped by the police.

It is a great place to be outdoorsy. It is not a great place to grocery shop for good prices, unless you pretend to be “upscale” and have to ignore what you pay for things.

Fayette County seems to have the best educational facilities for kids in this area. In short, put up with the traffic, the rubber-stamp chain restaurants, and the high prices, and you'll live safely within the moat of supposed superiority.

Fayetteville is on the cusp now. I don't think many people realize how slippery, indeed, is the slope you are teetering on. You have only to look at how the greenery is being ripped away on Ga. Highway 314, to be replaced by asphalt and stores.

I saw a letter asking why that land was being raped while just across the street lies a half-empty abandoned commercial area. I agree with the writer. This should not be happening.

The wolf is at your door and you are going to be stuffed into his barbeque pit, so he can make more money. Smile while he bastes you-all....
