County residents have plenty of places to get into the swim of things

Local residents looking for a pool to cool off in this summer have a number of options in the county, but they're all in Peachtree City.

The Fayette County Recreation Department does not operate any swimming pools, but the Peachtree City Recreation Department has five scattered throughout the city.

Rates for all of the pools in Peachtree City are the same for Fayette County residents, and slightly more for those living outside the county.

The Kedron Recreation Complex, near the intersection of Kedron Drive and Ga. Highway 74, has two pools, one large and one small.

Swimmers in the large pool share it with swim teams from 4-5 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 7 - 9 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Otherwise, it's open 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Monday - Thursday, and 11:30a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Weekend hours are 1 - 7 Saturday and 1 - 5 Sunday.

The small pool at Kedron is open 9 - 10 weekday mornings, 11a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 1 - 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 - 5 Sunday.

The pool at the Glenloch Recreation Center on Stevens Entry, just off Ga. Highway 54, is open 11 - 7 Wednesday and Saturday, 1 - 6 Sunday, and 1 - 7 every other day of the week.

The Pebble Pocket pool is open 1 - 7 weekdays, 11 - 7 Saturday and 1 - 6 Sunday. The Clover Reach pool is open 1 - 6 Sunday through Friday and 11 - 7 Saturday.

All of the times listed above are good now through the middle of August.

Individual pool visits are $2 for age 12 to adult, $1 for age 4-11 and over 65, and free for children under 3. A dip ticket good for 10 visits costs $15.

Summer pool passes for residents of Fayette County are $50 for an individual, $100 for a couple or family of two, and $25 per additional family member up to a maximum of $150.

For those living outside Fayette County, rates are $75 for an individual, $150 for a couple or family of two, and $37.50 per additional family member up to a maximum of $225.

Entire pools are even available for rental. Rates range from $60 per hour for both Kedron pools at once to $20 for the Clover Reach pool. Those costs do not include a lifeguard fee of $33 per hour.

The Kedron Recreation Complex also has swim classes, scuba diving classes, water aerobics, arthritis aerobics, aquatic aerobics, classes for special muscle needs and classes for children with special needs. Call 770-631-2525 for details.

Outside the recreation centers, public pools are limited.

The Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center on Ga. Highway 54 in Peachtree City does not sell pool passes, but fitness center memberships are available that allow use of both the indoor and outdoor pool.

A half-day membership, which is good 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends, is $27.50 per month. A full-day membership is $35 per month.

Pools at hotels in Fayette County are of no use to local residents.

The Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites allow only hotel guests to use their pools. That policy is shared by the Holiday Inn Express in Fayetteville.

The Days Inn and Sleep Inn in Peachtree City do not have pools.
