An agreement between the Army Corps of Engineers and the Fayette County Board of Education, which designates 27 acres of land at the south complex to remain undisturbed, was approved Monday night. The restrictive covenant puts the board in compliance with the Corps' wetland policies. Mike Satterfield, project supervisor for the school district explained that two acres of wetlands is located under the schools at the complex was mitigated with the 27 acres. He described it as marshland. In other business, the board agreed to maintain control of Tiger Trail, which leads past Fayette County High School, following a proposal by the city of Fayetteville to reroute traffic from Hood Avenue and GA Highway 85 to Tiger Trail and Lafayette Avenue. Their main objection was that the change would compromise the safety of students crossing Tiger Trail during class time and special events.
