A series of budget hearings begin tomorrow for the Fayette County Board of Commissioners. The group will meet at 6 p.m. before the regular business meeting at 7 p.m. to go over departmental budget requests for fiscal year 2000. Work sessions also are scheduled June 10 at 4 p.m., June 16 at 4 p.m., June 22 at 4 p.m. and, if needed, June 24 before the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Plans are to adopt the budget at the June 24 meeting. The Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the Fayetteville Fire Department are joining ranks with more than 100 other fire departments from throughout the state to participate in the 10th annual Give Burns the Boot drive. The drive benefits the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. Firefighters will ask area residents for donations during the three-day drive, June 24-26. The Burn Foundation is a nonprofit organization that seeks to educate the public in burn awareness and prevention, support medical facilities in the care of burns in Georgia, and help burn survivors recover. ,Fayette County Public Works Department will close Sandy Creek Road south of Hood Road June 14 for about eight weeks while workers replace an old concrete culvert with a new one.
