Antioch Baptist Church celebrates 170 years

By CAROLYN CARY
Contributing Writer

The Antioch Baptist Church will celebrate its 170th anniversary this Sunday, June 6. A three-part program is planned.

Morning worship will be at 10:45 a.m., with dinner on the grounds immediately following.

At 2:30 p.m., a prayer garden will be dedicated to Jerry Branch, who was active in the church's campaign to clean up its adjacent cemetery. As a part of that campaign, many workers cleaned up the slave cemetery that also is a part of the church grounds.

More than 100 crosses made of cedar have been placed on these gravesites, and this area, too, will be dedicated.

The community is invited to all three activities.
