Kids can have adventures at wildlife adventure camp

Parents looking for a fun, inexpensive and educational activity for their kids this summer still have time to sign up for the Outdoor and Wildlife Adventure Camp scheduled for July 19 - 23 at the Georgia FFA/FHA Center in Covington.

Kids will learn about the outdoors and improve their outdoor skills through participation in activities such as fishing, archery, canoeing, shotgun shooting and personal watercraft operation.

The camp is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division and the Georgia FFA/FHA Center. Camp participants will receive hunter education certification and boating safety certification.

The week is packed with hands-on outdoor activities taught by conservation rangers, wildlife biologists and WRD volunteers. WRD biologists will use live wildlife such as hawks, owls and snakes to teach youth about wildlife characteristics and youth also will participate in woodworking and craft projects that benefit wildlife.

The Outdoor and Wildlife Adventure Camp is open for 300 youths 11 to 15. The $125 registration fee ($150 after June 15) includes lodging and meals, a camp t-shirt, and the use of equipment. Youths will stay in group cabins, and WRD conservation rangers will serve as youth counselors.

For information or a registration brochure, visit your nearest WRD law enforcement office or phone 770-918-6400.
