Local churches seek volunteers for Habitat for Humanity 'blitz' house

Two Fayette County churches are seeking volunteers to give of their time, skills, food to be supplied to the worksite and/or building materials to “blitz build” a home for the Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity during the week of July 23-31.

Members of Providence United Methodist Church in Peachtree City and Fayetteville First United Methodist Church are teaming up with other churches in the Atlanta area to build the home in Trinity Park subdivision just north of Fayetteville. Construction, from start to finish, is expected to be finished within a one-week period. The churches expect more than 250 volunteers to provide labor and support to the effort.

“This blitz gives us the opportunity to put our faith into action right here in our own community, said Marla Brack, team leader at Providence. “The house we build will help a low income family break the cycle of poverty and put them on the road to financial and personal independence.”

Doug Higgins of Fayetteville First adds, “A lot of us don't realize that many of our fellow citizens in the South Metro area live in substandard housing. This outreach allows us to work together to make a difference.”

Volunteers from individuals and businesses are still needed. For more information or to volunteer call Brack at 770-487-5570 or Higgins at 770-473-9400 (work number).
