Editiorial cartoon shows poor taste, judgement

Letters from Our Readers

I can't imagine anyone finding any humor in the comic that you allowed to be published Wednesday, May 26 — the one with the school child on her knees and the other child on the floor with the gunman above with a gun.

I still have children in school and even if I didn't, there's nothing humorous about the events that have been happening at our schools.

After the Columbine school incident, I was so torn up I couldn't even look at the news, when I did, all I could do was cry for days. I'm sure other parents feel the same way, and how about our helpless children that are trying to get an education so that they can truly make something out of themselves. How safe do you think they feel after all this?

Do you have children or grandchildren? If so, I wonder did the comic (not what I would like to call it) make your children laugh or bring enjoyment to them?

My daughter is in the tenth grade, and she is an honor student, something she has worked very hard to accomplish and to maintain. When she saw your comic, it upset her; after she said, “What poor taste,” she left the supper table and retreated to her room.

Her school is like all the others — they deserve a safe place where our teachers can teach and be safe and our children and future grandchildren can go to learn, be taught and be safe.

I find it offensive that anyone could not have any more compassion in their hearts than to allow that comic to be printed. Our whole world has been touched by this awful tragedy, and if yours hasn't, then all I can say is I feel sorry for you; you have no heart!

When my daughter first started high school. I was a little unnerved at the sight of the deputies at the school, but before long I realized how lucky we were to have them there to look out for all there. They too have families and children and I'm sure they have an inner worry for the safety of their kids too. They are there to protect and serve, which I am very thankful they are doing! I know this is their job but they are putting their lives on the line each and every day they put on their uniform.

With the meanness going on in the world I'm surprised we have any law enforcement officers or teachers left. All I can say is I am thankful to all the teachers who still have a love for their job and a desire to teach our children even with all this madness going on.

And I'm thankful for all the law enforcement officers out there watching over our kids at school and doing their best to keep them safe.

And for you I pray that you will have a little more consideration when proofreading and checking what can and can't be printed in your paper. Thank you for your time. Rest assured, I won't be wasting anymore of my time reading your paper if I see anything like that in it again.
