Monthly community prayer day begins this Thursday

Several Fayette church and business leaders are urging widespread community support for a monthly community prayer meeting in Fayetteville adjacent to both the county and city government headquarters.

The initial “First Thursday noon community prayer” meeting will be June 3 at the American Legion log cabin across from Heritage Park fountain in Fayetteville. The nondenominational service will begin at noon and end at 1 p.m.

“Christians from all churches and denominations [will be] coming together to humble themselves, pray and seek God's face,” according to Gray Harwell of Fayetteville. Harwell leads a counseling ministry to other ministers and is involved in the local church unity movement.

“Local pastors and spiritual leaders from various churches, denominations and ministries will share leadership” of the prayer sessions, Harwell said.

The idea grew out of the recent National Day of Prayer event, observed in Fayetteville and nationwide, he said.

For more information, call 770-306-0290 and ask for Lynn, Harwell said.

Among those meeting Thursday in the planning session for the monthly event were Harwell, Father Timothy Hepburn of the Catholic Church of St. Gabriel in Fayetteville, John Hatcher of River's Edge Community Church, Justin Kollmeyer of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, Willie James Christian of His House Community Church, Calvin Smith of Abundant Life Church of God in Tyrone, Bill Bonner and Woody Johnson, local businessmen, Rick Davison, general manager of WVFJ-FM (J93.3) and Cal Beverly, publisher of The Citizen.
