Fast pitch softball has come a long way over the past two years. Many counties in the state adopted fast pitch softball to match the level of play in high school.

Last week, softball officials in Spalding County invited the Fayette County Firestix, an under 12 fast pitch softball team, to play the Griffin Storm in an exhibition match.

The Firestix were led by pitcher Angela Garza, who stuck out nine batters before sitting down after four innings. The Firestix led 11-4 after four innings and eventually won 13-11.

They got excellent offense from Beth Brooker, Jennifer Tuebl, Angela Garza and Ashley McBride.

Other members of the team that made the trip to Griffin were Lauren Hall, Erin Hendley, Sheree Knowles, Alice Kovac and Adrienne Rowe.

The Firestix have had an excellent season and have taken in two competitive tournaments this spring.
