The fourth annual David L. Harris Jr. Memorial Golf
Classic was held earlier this month at Whitewater Country Club.
More than 250 golfers participated in the tournament,
which was played in a Ft. Lauderdale/scramble format. There were
two shotgun starts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to
accommodate the large number of golfers.
A prayer was given by the Rev. Bill Reynolds, coordinator ,
pastoral care at Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center,
before the tournament got underway. Special music was
provided by Trumpet Trio, which is made up of Matt Spaulding,
Robert Owens and Steve Musker.
Gene Evans Ford, Don Jackson Lincoln Mercury and
Bulldog Supply were all hole in one sponsors. Paul Wenske made his
first hole in one on hole seven and won a two-year lease on a new
car from Rusty Bowman at Don Jackson Lincoln Mercury.
Witnessing the feat were Wenske's playing partners, Willis Peele,
Jack Hewetson and Bill Odom, along with tournament volunteer
Patti Thaxton.
Greg Floyd won the putting contest and received two
round trip tickets from Air Canada. Bob Lawlor won the Shoot-Out
contest and won two round trip tickets from Delta Air Lines.
Greg Harrell won the raffle drawing and received two round trip
tickets on Air Canada.
Awards were given to the top four winning teams. First
place was the team of Tommy Brown, Greg Webb, Tom Hornsby,
and Brett Parris. Finishing in second place was the team of
Ray Landers, Rob Estes, Arthur Estes and Rodney Herndon. The
team of Al Hogg, Jim Fergus, David Motley and Al Messick
placed third, while Jeff Bourne, Danny Hall, Wes Durhren and Jim

"We appreciate all of the tournament sponsors and each
golfer for supporting this event," said David L.Harris Sr. "Together
everyone is working to help make a difference in the lives of
children diagnosed with leukemia or other forms of cancer. This was a
very special remembrance of David."
David L. Harris Jr. lost his life to Leukemia four years ago at
the age of 9.
