The city of Senoia will have to wait until at least June 1 to see if the Coweta County Board of Commissioners will give final approval to an annexation petition by the city. In early April, the city sent an annexation request to the county for a 55-acre parcel on Rockaway Road. After county planner Robert Tolleson examined the proposal, he asked the county to go to a mitigation process because a higher density subdivision could be built if the property were annexed into the city. Currently, the city has a one-acre minimum lot size in the area, while the county's minimum building site is 1.6 acres. The commissioners agreed Tolleson should try and find a compromise solution with the city, and in early May, Tolleson met with Senoia public works director Leonard Thompson. Tolleson and Thompson hammered out an agreement that would limit development on the property to single family residences, require a 40-foot buffer around the site and require building lots of 1.6 acres on the part of the property that directly borders unincorporated property. Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter, who represents Senoia, said he had no problem with the compromise, but wanted to know exactly how many lots would be 1.6 acres. When Tolleson said he could not provide an exact number, Hunter asked the commission to defer a vote until more information could be provided. "I'd like to see how many lots we're talking about," Hunter said. Tolleson said it would be difficult to get that information since the developer had not outlined lots yet. "Right now, he's just interested in the annexation issue," Tolleson said. The planner said he would try to get an estimate and provide it to the commissioners at their June 1 meeting.
