Collins to serenade Ampitheater this weekend

The Webb, Stuckey and Lindsey, Attorneys at Law, Summer Concert Series continues at the Frederick Brown Jr. Ampitheater this weekend with music legend Judy Collins.

Judy Collins has been involved with music since the age of 10. She has a background in classical piano and has studied with Antonia Brico, a famous orchestral conductor who conducted major symphony orchestras in the United States and Europe. Brico has been described as Collins' mentor.

Collins has recorded 29 albums in her long and illustrious career, including "Who Knows Where The Time Goes," featuring the songs "Someday Soon," "My Father," and of course the song, "Who Knows Where The Time Goes."

While her lyrics can be poignant and poetic, it is her covers of other artists' work that brought her the most acclaim. In 1967, Collins earned a Grammy nomination for her version of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now." The song was featured on Collins' album "Wildflowers" and she was nominated for both the single and the album.

She also has recorded a beautiful version of "Amazing Grace," as well as "Send in the Clowns," and the Beatles tune "In My Life." Her friend, poet-songwriter Richard Farina describes her voice this way: "If amethysts could sing, they would sound like Judy Collins."

She will perform Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. There will be no opening act. Tickets are available for both shows, but there is limited availability for the Friday evening performance. Tickets are $21 and there is a $3 handling fee for all orders. Use a Visa or a Mastercard by phoning 770-631-0630.
