McIntosh to perform play
about Sojourner Truth

McIntosh High School S.T.A.G.E. Works will present "A Woman Called Truth," a play about the life of abolitionist and women's rights advocate Sojourner Truth, on Friday-Saturday, May 6-7, 7:30 p.m., at the McIntosh Black Box Theatre.

The drama by Sandra Fenichel Asher chronicles the life of this remarkable woman from the day she is sold away from her family as a young girl, through her struggle to free herself and her son, to her emergence as a popular and respected figure who championed abolition and women's rights.

"A Woman Called Truth" combines her words with authentic slave songs, spirituals and folk songs of the period. The play has been honored by the National Endowment for Arts and the American Alliance for Theatre and Education.

The cast includes Amma Aggrey, Joya Green, Eric Henson, Amanda Kent, Kelechekwu Oparah and Aaron Reddy. Melissa Muetzel, Emily Orton, Kristen Beaman, Eric Ames, Graham Ingram and Ashley Edwards are the Chorus.

Tanner Plauche and Alicia Zellweger serve as stage managers, Sean Heaton and Andy Conwell are the technical crew and stage crew members are Corinne Nemeth and Amy Rogers.
