The Fayette Youth Track Team had an outstanding showing
on Saturday in the district track meet held at Lovejoy High School.
The team is sending 14 members directly into the state finals
and three members have qualified to run in the state qualifier heats.
In the Under 8 boys division, David Mathis took first place
in the 50m and second place in the 200m. Chazzwyn Price
finished in second place in the 100m and Sean Plunkett took first in
the high jump. Jamahl Calloway took first in the high jump in the
Under 10 boys division and finished in second in the 400m. Cedric
Hal took first place in the shotput and J.C. Jennings took first in the
softball throw and second in the shotput. James Mathis took
second in the running long jump, was part of the first place
4x100m relay team and qualified in the 50m and 200m, taking
second place in both events.
There were two first place finishers and two second place
finishers in the under 10 girls division. Allison Pursley took second
in the high jump. Kamili Kiongozi placed first in the softball
throw and Maranda Adams took first in the standing long jump.
Adriane Melnyczuk finished in second place in the running long
jump. The under 12 boys division had Ryan Jordan placing first in
the high jump and Kwame Sheehy placing second in the
softball throw. Athon Grimball qualified for the 100m state qualifier with
a second place finish at the district meet and Cynchelle Boston
qualified for the under 12 girls division with a second place finish in
the 50m.
The state meet will take place this weekend in Augusta and
the Fayette Youth Track Team looks to continue it's success and
dominance. The kids in the field events have only been coached in
those events for the past two weeks. Their dedication has paid off
as several members of the team have shots at placing high in
those events. We wish the entire team good luck this weekend.
