The season has ended for the Fayette County Tiger
baseball team. The Tigers lost both games of a doubleheader to Evans,
Augusta, 8-4. Brett Latham hit a two run homerun in game two
and Brandon Croft and Brent Cloud each hit a homerun during
the weekend as well. The offense was spotty though and the team is
a little disappointed.
"We weren't mentally ready," said Coach Robert
Townsend. "We didn't play well or hit like we needed to and we came
up short." The Tigers should hold their head up though. They
finished the season 21-8 and hit 44 homeruns this year, two
better than last year's record setting mark. They also set a
school record by winning 13 consecutive games to open the
season. "You don't like to see the season end sometimes,"said
Coach Townsend. "Everything ends sooner or later though."
While the season and some high school careers are over now,
two players will be signing letters of intent this week. Brett
Latham will sign with Georgia College on Wednesday and Bryan Davis
will sign with Gordon College on Friday.
