Area churches plan unity 'March for Jesus' May 22

Preparations are coming together for the southside's second annual March for Jesus, May 22, in the streets of Fayetteville. Christians from area counties will converge at Fayette County High School to begin the mile plus march, according to John Hatcher, march coordinator.

Last year about 1,500 local people participated in the march along with millions of others in every time zone around the world.

Although the march is not a protest, Hatcher said, Christians are encouraged to bring banners, Christian flags, balloons to make the march as colorful as possible.

More than seven vocal/instrumental floats will provide live music by which the marchers will walk. Churches participating in this way are Harp's Crossing Baptist Church, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Atlanta City Church, River's Edge Community Church, Fayetteville Church of God, and His House Community Church.

More churches are needed, Hatcher said, with youth groups and singing groups especially welcome. If you would like your church to participate, call 770-719-0303 for more information. Individual members of all area churches are invited to march whether or not their churches are "official sponsors."

After finishing the mile plus route, marchers will rally at the Fayette County Stonewall Administrative Complex for thirty minutes of praise and prayer. Local pastors will lead the crowd in prayer.

Christians interested in participating should assemble at the high school parking lot beginning at 9 a.m. The march will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Individuals in wheel chairs are invited to participate. Parents can pull their children in wagons. However, no motorized vehicles may be involved except for the handicapped.
